The 35th Senate district consists of [[Clinton County, Iowa|Clinton County]], as well as parts of [[Jackson County, Iowa|Jackson County]] and [[Scott County, Iowa|Scott County]].

In what was widely considered an upset, [[Democratic]] nominee [[Mike Zimmer]] defeated [[Republican]] nominee [[Katie Whittington]] by 339 votes (3.64 percent)<ref>https://electionresults.iowa.gov/IA/123074/web.345435/#/detail/1000?voteType=ALL&precinct=ALL&party=ALL</ref>, flipping the seat to the Democrats.
